10:30am Session 2 with Paul Critchley, President at NELC
Description
Session 1 – The hotline at EANE is filled with reports about interpersonal conflicts, harassment, and discrimination allegations at our member organizations. Tensions are high and emotions are running overboard with our teams. Toss in an election season and many workplaces will reach their boiling point. These problems are often the results of disrespectful attitudes and behaviors, misunderstandings, or an unwillingness to respect the point of view, rights, experiences or culture of others. Front-line leaders, managers, and supervisors often set the tone for what behaviors are considered respectful in the workplace. But what do we mean by workplace respect and how can we reshape our cultures? This 90-minute session will provide HR leaders and people leaders with some strategies for creating a more positive and productive workplace.
Session 2 – One of the tenets of The Toyota Way is to demonstrate “Respect for People” in our interactions, but it’s not always clean what that means. Does that mean saying “thank you” more often? Holding the door open for the person behind me? More pizza parties in the break room? In today’s challenging environment, practicing Respect for People means creating a culture where people feel valued, trusted, respected, and heard. In this 90-minute session, we’ll explore two Lean methods to help us do just that: Daily Management, and Gemba Walks. Each of these Lean tools is distinct and specific in their design and execution, and both help to support building an organization that is psychologically safe, which is a key to long term organizational health, employee engagement, and retention.
